Legislative Director - Sandy Tesch, RDH, MSHP

Sandy TeschSandy grew up in upstate New York and attended dental hygiene school at Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York. After working for a few years as a clinical hygienist, she went back to school full time to get a Bachelor of Science degree in school health education. Upon completion of her BSE degree, she was tired of the cold winters in NY and decided to move to Texas to further her professional career. Sandy worked as a dental hygiene clinician for several general practices while completing her Master of Science in Health Professions (Major-Health Education, Minor- Health Administration), from Southwest Texas State University. She has been a registered dental hygienist for 39 years.

Sandy currently works for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission's deputy commissioner, as a special project coordinator for the Texas Medicaid/CHIP programs. Previously she worked for the state Oral Health Program as a Program Specialist. Her responsibilities included the coordination of dental public health activities to include a statewide dental sealant program, community outreach activities, marketing and education, policy development, project and contract management and grant writing.

Sandy is a member of the Greater Austin Dental Hygienists' Association and past president of both the Austin component and state associations. She has served as the Governmental Affairs co-chair for over 13 years and nationally on the ADHA Board as Vice-President and District IX Trustee. She and her son Tyler live in Austin and spends their free time traveling, movie going, and reading. She is excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve as your TDHA Legislative Director.

Member Services Director - LeeAnn Winkler, RDH, BSDH

LeeAnn WinklerLeeAnn Winkler, RDH, BSDH has been a practicing clinical dental hygienist since graduating from Baylor College of Dentistry's Caruth School of Dental Hygiene where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene. LeeAnn has volunteered in many capacities in her life, including various positions in PTA, with the Mesquite Citizen's Police Academy Alumni Association, and as President of the University of North Texas Parent Association. She is currently the President of the Texas Dental Hygienists' Association and the Immediate Past President of the Dallas Dental Hygienists' Society. She has held many positions in the association including serving as an ADHA delegate. LeeAnn contributes her professional growth to the support of her peers, friends, and family. She is married to her husband, Terry, and they have one daughter Shannon. LeeAnn is an avid reader and loves to do crafts. Many of her creations have helped to raise money for TDHA, IOH, and Tex HyPAC.

Professional Education Director - Monna Carpentar-Barin, RDH, BS, OM, SLP

Monna Carpentar-BarinMonna graduated with honors, in May 2004, from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio with a Certificate in Dental Hygiene. Prior to this accomplishment, she practiced as a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist primarily in the public schools working with special needs children. Monna says that belonging to your professional organization reflects the commitment you have made to your career. It also helps you to stay knowledgeable about the most current changes which are impacting your profession. Monna continues to be very active on the state and local levels, serving in multiple leadership roles in San Antonio including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and incoming Trustee. At the National level, she has represented TDHA as both a Delegate and Alternate to the ADHA Annual Session on multiple occasions and she served on ADHA's Finance Committee for several years. In 2009, Monna was the recipient of the TDHA Future Leader of the Year Award. Monna, Glenn, her husband of 26 years, and Honey, their boxer, have recently relocated to outside the San Marcos area.

Communications Director - Rickie Lindley,RDH, BS

Rickie Lindley Rickie Lindley RDH, graduated Cum Laude from Tyler Junior College with an Associate of Science in dental hygiene in 2013. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Oral Health Promotion in 2014 from O’Hehir University and holds certifications to monitor nitrous oxide sedation and in diode laser technology.

She first became a member of ADHA 2011 and served as President of the student chapter and after graduation became involved with the Dallas Dental Hygienists’ Society. She has served on the Dallas Hy-PAC committee and as Co-Chair to 1st VP/Programs Chair, and as a delegate at annual session representing Dallas for three sessions. She is a student mentor to Baylor senior dental hygiene students, and became Social Media Chair for TDHA September of 2015.

She is now serving as President-Elect and Social Media chair for DDHA. She enjoys working closely with a wonderful group of hygiene peers and looks forward to what the future holds for the profession.

Rickie works full time as a clinical dental hygienist in a Dallas private practice. She enjoys a variety of activities such as politics, crochet, people watching, and Facebook stalking. She has been married for 12 years and has a wonderful 9 year old son.

Trustee Directors

Betty Haynes, RDH

Betty Haynes Betty Haynes, RDH, of Houston is a newly elected TDHA Trustee Director for 2017-2018. After attending Career Academy Dental Assisting School in Houston, Texas and becoming a Certified Dental Assistant, Betty continued her education by graduating in the first class of Dental Hygiene at Lamar University in 1973. She is currently employed full time in a private periodontal practice in Northwest Houston. Betty is Past President of the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists Association and Past President of the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. She has served as a Delegate to the American Dental Hygienists Association and the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. Betty continues to serve on committees and is currently on the board of the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists Association and the Texas Dental Hygienists Association. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member of the Coleman Houston Community College where she teaches classes to Dental Assistants to further their education and requirements to the State Board.

When not doing dental hygiene volunteering or working she spends time with her three granddaughters and enjoys cooking and shopping with "the girls".

Connie Groves, RDH, BS

Connie Groves Connie Groves RDH, grew up in Central Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where she received a bachelor of science degree in education. She has worked in private practice for the past 29 years. In 2001 her husband Jonathan Witt took a position in Houston. Since moving to Houston, she has been an active member of Bay Area Dental Hygienists' Society where she currently serves as Treasurer, Trustee, Co-Chair for sealant day, IOH Chair and Hy-Pac Chair. She has served as President, Vice President and Delegate. She currently represents Texas Dental Hygienists' Association as the Ways and Means chair and as a member of the budget and finance committee.

Connie has been married to Jonathan for 16 years and they have 4 rescue dogs and 1 rescue cat. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, hiking and traveling or just hanging out with family and friends. She is a huge Buckeyes fan. She is also proud to serve as the new Trustee Director.
